Spot welding

Spot welding is a type of resistance welding used to join two or more metal sheets at small, localized points without the use of filler material. This process is commonly used in industries such as automotive manufacturing, metal furniture production, electronics, and home appliance assembly, where fast, clean, and reliable metal joining is required.

In spot welding, two metal pieces are pressed together between copper electrodes. A high-current pulse is passed through the metals, generating heat due to electrical resistance. This heat melts the metal at the contact point, forming a weld nugget once it cools. The pressure is maintained until the weld solidifies, ensuring a strong bond.

Advantages of spot welding:

  • Fast and efficient welding process,
  • No need for consumables like filler wires or shielding gases,
  • Minimal heat-affected zone, reducing warping,
  • High repeatability, suitable for automation and robotic welding,
  • Clean welds with little or no spatter or slag.

Spot welding is ideal for thin sheet metals such as steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. It is a cost-effective and reliable technique widely used in mass production where speed, consistency, and clean aesthetics are essential. Its simplicity and adaptability make it one of the most practical welding methods today.
